this essay is so great Sara, thank you for writing it. I’ve noticed the patronizing self help trend is particularly bad on Substack, which is ironic because so much of the content on here is about how toxic other social media platforms are. it’s so exhausting lol
Love your writing as always Sara -- the goal of any "rebrand" should be to have a life that makes you happy and fulfilled, and once you find that, you shouldn't need to rebrand any more! But social media is always in your face offering new, better versions of life than the one you have, planting seeds of doubt that prompt that constant cycle of rebranding. Great essay!
thank you so much! and agreed—i think it's the excessiveness of the rebrand. like adjusting 1-2 things to make you happier & healthier is normal. but to change 30 things at once is so unrealistic and self-sabotaging imo. it's a fantasy to soothe yourself with instead of doing the 1-2 that is realistic, but might take more work because it has actual payoff
Reverse imposter syndrome… love that. And love the reminder you can do anything at anytime. There’s no age to young or to old. Thanks Sara!
age is a construct! life is worth living, no matter what stage!
everything you mention resonates sm with me rn, ty for articulating how i (and so many ppl) have been feeling in words <3
